The
South East coast of Zanzibar, as the North East Coast, is
one long sandy beach, with the villages Bwejuu, Paje and
Jambiani, and was the first touristic destination in Zanzibar.
The
village life is very interesting to watch, and there are the
biggest sea-weed farms on the island, which the women tend
at low tide, when they can walk out to them. You will also
see sea weed drying in the sun, before it gets sold to the
Chinese. This will be a very important income for women, and
allow them to be independent.
Here
one can walk or cycle along the beach for hours, go snorkeling
with a dhow on the reef, swim at high tide, and explore the
sand and rocks at low tide.
